Embryo & Fun Item Auction

The Simmental Breeders Sweepstakes was started in 1985 by a group of 32 breeders from across the United States. They each gave around $1,000 donation to get the ground running on an event that so many people treasure and enjoy today. Hudson Pines Farm of Sleepy Hollow, New York was one of the founders of the Simmental Breeders Sweepstakes, and of course, is still successful at the event today. The objective of the Founders was to have a relaxed atmosphere before the fall show season for Simmental breeders to come to and exhibit their cattle. The Simmental Breeders Sweepstakes is governed by an Executive Committee made up of Simmental breeders who are Life Members of the Sweepstakes.

After the first Simmental Breeders Sweepstakes in 1985, the committee set to establish a Herdsman of the Year to recognize a herdsman for his or her valuable contribution and dedication to the Simmental breed. The recipient is nominated and elected by his or her peers who attend the Sweepstakes. The first Herdsman of the Year was awarded in 1986 to Roger Allen. Since then, some of the most respected herdsman in the Simmental industry have been awarded this incredible honor. The list is filled with men and women who support and promote the Simmental breed from a personal and professional level.

1986 was a big year for the Sweepstakes as the Founders and Life Members. This year also marked the first ever Embryo Extravaganza which featured embryos from twelve of the leading females in the breed. The first Embryo Extravaganza was narrated by Michael Stanfield and the auctioneer was Merrill Anderson, a huge supporter of the Sweepstakes for many years. The Embryo Auction at the Simmental Breeders Sweepstakes features donated embryos by Simmental breeders, and greatly helps fund the Breeders Sweepstakes. Today, the Embryo and Fun Auction continues to help raise funds so that the Sweepstakes can be a treasured event for many years to come. The Executive Committee is always looking for donations whether it be embryos or items for the fun auction if you wish to become involved.

Over the years, not many things about the Sweepstakes have changed. With the help of Jame Secondino Krieger, Doug Parke, Simmental breeders, and the Executive Committee, the Simmental Breeders Sweepstakes remains true to the purpose of the show which was set up by the Founders in 1985. It truly is a great summer event for families to come and enjoy their last few days of summer before preparation for the fall begins. We invite you to browse the website for more information on this wonderful event, and hope that you and your operation will join us at the upcoming Simmental Breeders Sweepstakes.
